Student leadership opportunities at Shawnigan range from informal positions in the House, the classroom or in co-curriculars to more formal positions, including grade-level Roundtable participant, Prefect and Co-Head of School. Anyone and everyone at Shawnigan is encouraged to embrace leadership and seek to inspire others in a way that feels comfortable.
Whether this is by promoting green living as a recycling champion in the House, captaining a sports team, or leading a new co-curricular offering, we recognize the importance of making a meaningful contribution for every student. Year-on-year, through Grades 8 to 11, Shawnigan students practice leadership through grade-level Roundtables, where they focus on inter-grade, inter-school and community service actions, preparing themselves for the responsibility of senior student leadership positions in Grade 12. In their final year, should students wish, they become eligible for positions including School Prefect, Head of House and Co-Head of School. Characterized by rigorous selection processes, these senior student roles encourage Grade 12s to provide exemplary and diligent leadership for their peers, speak for the student body, contribute to the direction of the School, promote the culture of their Houses, and act as ambassadors for Shawnigan, both on and off campus.
