Lake's House

House Colours: emerald green and light blue
House Emblem: griffin
House Motto: Non Sibi Sed Aliis – "Not for ourselves, but for others"
House Hymn: Amazing Grace
One of the two original houses, Lake's House was created in May, 1927, when boys moved into the new School, now called the Main Building. It was named after Harry J. Lake, its first Head of House. Harry Lake was also Head of School 1927-1928. The first location of Lake's House was the northwest wing of the Main Building. It remained in this location until the fall of 1983 when they moved into a new House built on the hill to the southwest of the Main Building, overlooking the campus.

It may be of interest to know that the original Lake's House emblem depicted an arm holding a flag representing loyalty, and was used until 1983. The corresponding motto was Un Dieu Un Roy Un Coeur – "One God, One King (Queen), One Heart.” (One version of the emblem can be seen in the 1968 yearbook, page 32.) Undoubtedly, Graham Anderson – long-time Lake's Housemaster and heraldic scholar – could have told us much more about this image.
