The Sportsplex consists of two gymnasiums and bleachers, three weight rooms and six squash courts. The original gym (1927), along with the lockers and changing rooms, located on the ground floor of the west wing of the Main Building, was replaced in 1966 by a new gym built near the old Classroom Block, which has since been removed and replaced elsewhere on campus. In 2009 a second gym was added to the existing gym structure, along with additional squash and tennis courts and a weight room to make up today’s Sportsplex.
The Sportsplex includes outside spaces also. Six tennis courts now line the north side, and the Sports Village is on the south side. The Sports Village, established in 2021-2022, is nestled between the Sportsplex and the Arena, providing a lighted outside area where students can play hockey in a small paved rink, volleyball on a sandy court, soccer on a small astroturf pitch, basketball on a small paved court, or sit under a covered picnic area.
Created and installed near the main entrance of the Sportsplex in 2023 is a permanent photo display, depicting the historic timeline of sports at the School. In addition, banners representing provincial victories, and cases displaying trophies, showcase excellence and pride in the School’s sporting achievements.
The Sportsplex is a very busy place! From P.E. classes to after-school sports, such as basketball and volleyball, to drop-ins to inter-House events, the spaces both inside and outside are teeming with a wide variety of activities and cheers from athletes and fans alike.
