After the first year of co-education, the number of applications from females soared. The School committed to doubling the female enrolment, but School House, the inaugural girls' House created just the year before, was already filled to capacity. Therefore, Kaye's House was founded in September 1989 as the second girls' House. It was named in honour of G. Peter Kaye, the School's second Headmaster, whose sons and grandsons also attended Shawnigan. A House Director's residence was later added to the west end, freeing up the original suite for an assistant. The House is situated west of the Chapel on the north side of the drive.
