Following the Shawnigan Journey from Grade 8 through to Grade 12 is an experience like no other. Students who complete all five years at the School develop unique relationships with each other and with the School in general.
Every year, the students who started at Shawnigan in Grade 8 and remained here through to graduation are celebrated with the 5 Year Dinner, hosted in the back gardens of the Head’s House.
This year’s group included the first cohort of girls who started Grade 8 in Stanton House in the fall of 2019. Stanton was Shawnigan’s first boarding house designed exclusively for Grade 8 students, and was followed soon after by Levien House for Grade 8 boys. Earlier this year, all of our Grade 8 students moved together into Samuel House, Canada’s first co-educational Grade 8 boarding house.
On Monday, June 10, 31 students, along with their advisors and some other invited staff members met for photos with School photographer Ms. Arden Gill, followed by words of welcome from Head of School Mr. Larry Lamont. The students and guests ate dinner in small groups, and discussed a series of topics prepared beforehand. After dinner, the group reconvened and advisors presented their advisees with a special gift from the Head’s Office.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
