Grade 8 Appreciation Night

Grade 8 students in Samuel House expressed their gratitude to several members of staff and fellow students on April 10, inviting them to the recently opened House for a small celebratory evening.

“I spoke to the Grade 8s about what they can do to thank people and give back to the community,” House Director Mrs. Rainbow Bartlett said. The Grade 8s then came up with a long list of people they wanted to thank, including their Advisors; Prefects Ella R. and Zach P.; housekeepers Ms. Wendy Manley and Mrs. Charmaine King; Mr. Salim Rana, who served as Assistant House Director in Stanton until Samuel House opened; and Boarding Well-Being Assistant Mrs. Kathy Lowry for her help in getting them settled into Samuel House.

The Grade 8s made invitations, created a playlist to soundtrack the evening, and made some snacks and beverages for their visitors.

“As the guests entered Samuel House, they were greeted by the students and escorted to the upper common room, which had been thoughtfully decorated by the students,” Ella R. recalled. “Throughout the evening, the guests were able to enjoy catered mocktails and tasty charcuterie spreads.

“The event provided an opportunity for staff and students to connect and bond in a setting beyond the classroom. Also, this event served as an opportunity for staff to get to see the brand-new co-ed House. At the end of the night, the students each took turns to verbally express their appreciation to all those who they wished to thank for the support of the past year and handed out gifts.

“Overall, the event was a great success and left everybody feeling grateful and connected, making it one to remember for all who attended.”
