On Hallows Eve – October 31, 2019, Duxbury House hosted the School community to cut the ribbon on their new BBQ Pavilion and adjacent Sport Court. The project, which will provide endless hours of recreation and a gathering space for the Duxbury boys and all Shawnigan students, was entirely funded through generous donations from Duxbury parents, alumni, staff, and students. Acting as gracious hosts to the entire School community – in between games of basketball and soccer – the boys of Dux cooked hundreds of burgers and served hot chocolate before enjoying a fireworks show on Canada Field. The conception, design, fundraising and execution of the project relied on consistent involvement from the boys in the House, who learned a wide variety of career skills in the process. Our sincere thanks to volunteer parent leaders Ryan and Cindy Willson, whose initiative gave the project the momentum to proceed, as well as all of the donors that contributed to its realization.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
