Class of '73 Zenith Scholarship
As we look back to the 2023 Founder’s Day, we are grateful for and humbled by the dedication and generosity of our alumni and their passion to continue supporting Shawnigan Lake School. We are proud to share how the Class of 1973 came together to commemorate their 50th reunion and are giving back in the most meaningful way by establishing the new Class of ’73 Zenith Scholarship.
The Class of ’73 Zenith Scholarship aims to extend the pioneering legacy of the Class of 1972's Spirit of ’72 Scholarship, inspiring forthcoming classes to continue this tradition. The Class of 1973’s choice to create a lasting legacy is one that will have an immeasurable impact on future students at Shawnigan.
The Class of ’73 Zenith Scholarship fund's purpose is to assist worthy new and returning students from Canada or abroad who require financial assistance to attend Shawnigan Lake School. Scholarship recipients must demonstrate the ability to contribute to all areas of School life, including academics, the arts, athletics, and House activities, thereby elevating the experience of those around them and enriching the School's educational experience for all.

The scholarship is a testament to the strong friendships forged during the Class of 1973’s time at Shawnigan. This sentiment was repeated throughout the 2023 Founder’s Day. The message of friendship, lessons learned, and the value of a boarding house experience were expressed during the Chapel service and the Gold Club lunch.
“As I look around, I am reminded of the countless lessons my classmates and I learned within the School walls, the friendships that withstood the test of time, and the dreams that were ignited right here,” shared Niko Zorkin ’73 (Lonsdale’s) during the Founder’s Day Chapel service.
The Shawnigan scholarship and financial aid programs build opportunities for students from diverse and ever-expanding backgrounds, focusing on those who have not traditionally had access to a high-quality independent school education. The generosity of donors ensures Shawnigan can continue to give promising students, either in Canada or abroad, access to a well-rounded educational experience.
“During my time at Shawnigan, I had the opportunity to change my course in life. This was due in part to a shared experience with my roommate, Jim Marlow, who in a tragic time of need turned to me for comfort and support. This experience left a lasting impact on me. Fast forward to today, I had the opportunity to meet with the James M. Marlow Science Scholarship recipients, they personify the ‘Shawnigan Impact’ in the same way Jim did. They are Jim’s legacy as was the example Jim set for me. I am proud our class has pledged to leave their mark in the same way Jim did.”

We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
