Kudos to Our Tour Guides

Students who have dedicated time and work to serving as tour guides on the Shawnigan campus were rewarded for their efforts in a pin ceremony last Friday.

Pins at Shawnigan symbolize dedication, commitment, resilience, pride, achievement, belonging, celebration, and sacrifice. They were presented to a group of students who go the extra mile, are outstanding at what they do and consistent in their efforts, and represent Shawnigan and the School’s values.

The tour guide pins are a new initiative to recognize the endeavours of the students who have stepped up to show prospective students and their families around our magnificent campus.

“When we think about our Admissions tour guides, we can see all of these points in you,” said Director of Admissions Mrs. Julia Pollock. “You are dedicated to the School and share your personal experience, you meet with families and students you have never met before – you put yourself out there, you are reliable and on time, you do all of this with a smile on your face and make it seem so effortless, you sacrifice your spares, and you show up early in the morning when you could have slept in!

“Today, we want to thank you for your amazing support, because you give the families and students the lifeline they need when they first arrive. They can relate to you. They want to hear your experience. Imagine: the little Grade 7 boy looks up to you and thinks ‘I want to be like that student when I grow up.’ We hear so often, ‘Our tour guide was amazing,’ and very often you are the reason they choose Shawnigan in the end – I am not joking!”

Jason Li ’23 (Copeman’s), a four-year student and tour guide himself, designed the black and white tour guide pin. Surrounding the words “Tour Guide” are four symbols: a maple leaf for Canada, a dogwood flower for BC, a stag for Shawnigan, and a compass representing the tour guides themselves.

Adam Hyde-Lay ’23 (Lonsdale’s) received the very first pin, then helped present the rest of the pins to the current tour guides. That list included Eva K., Selam C., Tomas K., Ali S., Chase K., Ella H., Ella R., Emma H., Grant N., Josef J., Mike G., Sofia J., Aiden J., Audrey T., Chika K., Jackson P., Zoë B, Kate R., Harrison M., and Moose B. Congratulations to all the recipients!
