Shawnigan Sport Camps are an amazing opportunity for any young person! Develop your game to the next level, or try something new for fun!

Come experience our world-class facilities while being coached by some of the best in the world. Our coaching staff includes true experts in their areas, with national, international and professional experience!
 
Our summer sport camp program includes ice hockey, rugby, rowing, squash, basketball, multi-sport, and strength and conditioning.
 
For those interested in the boarding option, there will be a fun evening agenda that includes activities, movies, and much-needed downtime after your full day of sport. All of your meals will take place in our famous Marion Hall, where you will dine under the flag of the house where you are staying. Then you will stay, along with staff, in one of our world-class boarding houses.

  • Girls Only Ice Hockey

    Date: Camp 1 runs July 8 – 12 with two groups.
    Suggested Age: Group 1: U13; Group 2: U17
    Time: 8:30am – 4:30pm
    Pricing: $600 (includes lunches, Shawnigan Athletics t-shirt, and sack pack)
    Date: Camp 2 runs July 12 – 14 for elite level players.
    Suggested Age: U22

    Carly Haggard brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. She is currently in her eighth season as the head coach of Shawnigan Lake School’s female U18 Prep team. As a player, Carly collected a multitude of honours over four years of NCAA Div. 1 ice hockey at Dartmouth College, including ECAC Rookie of the Year (1999-2000), ECAC Player of the Year (2002-03), and All-American (2002-03). She was a two-time finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award for the Top Female College hockey player in the U.S. (2001-02 and 2002-03), and captained Dartmouth in her senior year (2002-03).
     
    Following her college career, she played for the Oakville Ice of the National Women’s Hockey League from 2003 to 2006, serving as captain and leading the team in scoring. She then played for Lugano in the Swiss women’s league, where she was named MVP in 2007-08 and 2008-09. Carly also played with the Canadian National Women’s U22 team. She was an assistant coach and interim head coach at the University of Guelph from 2009 to 2012. Carly holds her BC teaching certificate and teaches at Shawnigan Lake School. Instructors at the camp will include former Shawnigan Lake U18 female players who are currently playing university hockey.

  • Boys Ice Hockey

    Suggested Age: 9 - 18
    Date: Camp 1 runs July 15 – 19, open to all skill levels; Camp 2 runs Aug 6 – 9, open to all skill levels; Camp 3 runs Aug 12 – 16, open to all skill and elite; Camp 4 runs Aug 19 – 23 U18/U15 AAA pre-season conditioning camp.
    Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm

    Camp Director: Kevin Cooper (kcooper@shawnigan.ca)
     
    Kevin Cooper is Shawnigan Lake School’s Director of Ice Hockey and head coach of the Boys’ U18 prep team. He was born in Barrie, Ontario and grew up in the Northwest Territories and Ontario before attending private school in New Hampshire. He was recruited to play hockey for Middlebury College in Vermont, where he earned a BA in Psychology. He was named First Team All-Conference three straight seasons and NESCAC Player of the Year twice. After graduating in 2004, Mr. Cooper spent several years playing professional hockey in North America, Sweden, Finland and Germany. In 2011-12, he was named to the Federal Hockey League All-Star team and helped the New Jersey Outlaws win the FHL championship. While playing, he also volunteered and coached at various levels. After his playing career ended, Mr. Cooper worked at Brighton Academy in Maine, filling several roles, including Director of Hockey Operations and Associate Head Hockey Coach, as well as admissions counsellor, associate teacher, student advisor and dorm head.

  • Rugby

    Suggested Age: 12 - 18
    Date: Camp 1 runs July 1 – 5; Camp 2 runs July 8 – 12
    Time: 9:30am – 4:00pm
    Pricing: Day Camp: full day $450 (includes lunches); half day $225 (lunch not included).
    Boarding Camp: $1,200 includes all meals, evening activities and boarding in our famous Lecky House where numerous international teams have lodged.
    All camp fees include a Shawnigan Athletics t-shirt and sack pack.

    Come learn the latest skills, tactics and strategies that are used at the highest level of play from a world-class coach in a safe and very fun environment. Participants will cool off at the end of each day with a bit of fun in the lake, so pack a towel and extra shorts or bathing suit.
    The quality of the setting and facilities is so highly rated that Rugby Canada and many other international sides regularly train here in preparation for major tournaments, including Rugby World Cups in sevens and XVs, and the Olympic Games. Shawnigan has a rich history and culture in rugby. This includes competing annually against international teams, and winning multiple provincial and national championships in recent years.

    Clay has a wealth of experience as a player and coach. Clay grew up in New Zealand with the game, and has been involved in the rugby almost as long as he could walk. A former Canadian international player, Clay is a current coach at Shawnigan Lake School. In addition to coaching at Shawnigan, Clay holds NCCP and World Rugby coaching accreditation, and has experience coaching at all levels of the game, including Dog River Howlers Invitational Rugby, BC Grassroots Rugby Founder & CEO, Rugby Canada U20 women’s skills coach, and Rugby Canada men’s U20 coach.
  • Squash

    Suggested Age: 12 - 18
    Date: Camp 1 runs July 1 – 5; Camp 2 runs July 8 – 12
    Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm (Boarding Camp drop off at 8:30am on July 1/8 and pick up at 4:00pm on July 5/12)

    Come train at our world-class Sportsplex on the Shawnigan campus. This facility has first-class squash courts, as well as two full gyms and a strength and conditioning area that rivals any major university program.     Colin is the current Head of Squash at Shawnigan Lake School. A former national level player, Colin has coached Team BC and Team Alberta, the Irish Junior National Team, professional players and 10 national junior champions. Colin has coached four players ranked in the top 100 of the World!
     
    The Shawnigan Lake School squash camp has been running for 15 years and is one of the most highly regarded in North America. The coaching team will include Mike Johnson, who has coached multiple world champions and junior players who have gone on to Ivy League schools. Mike is regarded as one of the best coaches to ever coach squash.
     
    Also coaching at the camp is Thomas Brinkman. Thomas achieved a world ranking of 100 on the PSA and now runs one of the top junior squash programs in Canada.
  • Multi-Sport Day Camp - Rugby, Soccer, Softball

    Suggested Ages: 9 - 13
    Date: July 1 – 5. Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm

    Students will experience a variety of games and sports including rugby, soccer, softball, ultimate football, ball hockey, wrestling, basketball and a variety of minor games all at our world-class sporting facilities. You will learn the basic rules, skills and tactics in each of these sports. The emphasis will be on fun while learning about sport. Participants will cool off at the end of each day with a bit of fun in the lake, so pack a towel and extra shorts or bathing suit.

    Tim Murdy B.P.E., B.Ed., M.A.; NCCP Level 3 in rugby, football, wrestling and softball; World Rugby Level 2; 32 years of experience teaching physical education and over 35 years of experience coaching at all levels of sport. Tim brings a wealth of experience coaching from the novice development level all the way up to international sport. His experience includes producing provincial and national champions in both wrestling and rugby. He is the only coach in BC School Sports history to win provincial championships at three different schools, and holds the record of 23 provincial titles coaching school sports. Tim has both played and coached rugby for Canada, and has coached with Team BC in wrestling at both the Canadian and USA National Championships. Finally, Tim’s successes as an athlete and coach have been honoured and recognized with numerous awards and a place in the BC Rugby Hall of Fame.
  • Strength and Conditioning

    Suggested Age: 13 - 18
    Date: July 8 – 12
    Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm

    All athletes with aspirations of playing at high school and beyond need to incorporate a proper strength and conditioning program into their training. At this camp you will learn the proper techniques and movements to take your game to the next level.
    You will train and learn in our world-class facilities at the Shawnigan Sportsplex.

  • Rowing - Learn To Row

    Suggested Age: 12 - 15
    Date: July 1 – 5
    Time: 8:00am – 1:00pm
    Pricing: $450 (includes lunches, Shawnigan Athletics t-shirt and sack pack)
     
    What to bring: Full water bottle, hat, sunscreen, change of clothes, bathing suit, towel and light snack. Please wear clothes that are more form fitting as the oars can get caught in bulky clothing.
    Prerequisites: Ability to swim.
     
    Come learn to row on beautiful Shawnigan Lake! This camp is geared towards kid that have never rowed before or have very little experience rowing and want to learn a new sport in a safe, fun environment. In addition to rowing, the camp will include fun activities, like swimming and kayaking.
     
    The quality of the setting and our facilities is so highly rated that Rowing Canada regularly trains here in preparation for their international regattas, including the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

    Jen is a past national team and Olympic rower. With 20-plus years in sport development, including coach education, grassroots rowing, and Safesport implementation, she brings deep knowledge and experience to coaching kids on how to row!
  • Rowing - Experienced Rowers

    Suggested Age: 13 - 18
    Date: July 8 – 12 Time: 7:00am – 2:00pm
    Pricing: $450 (includes lunches, Shawnigan Athletics t-shirt and sack pack)
     
    What to bring: Full water bottle, hat, sunscreen, change of clothes, bathing suit, towel and snacks. Prerequisites: Row competently in at minimum a 4X or 4-/+. Ability to swim.

    Our rowing camp will start earlier in the day due to the recreational use of the lake. The camp will be geared toward competitive rowers wishing to improve their fitness and technique.
     
    The experience will include technical skill development via two on-water training sessions in the morning. The afternoon will consist of a variety of topics to help improve performance such as strength conditioning to avoid injury, information sessions on nutrition, and rest. You will be learning and training in our world-class facilities and shells which are so highly rated that Rowing Canada regularly trains here in preparations for their international regattas including the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
     
    Special bonus: Rowing BC High Performance coach and Olympic gold medallist Terry Paul, will guest coach one morning, and Rowing Canada’s 2024 Olympic-bound High Performance Director of Rowing Canada Adam Parfitt will guest coach and speak about what it takes to make it on the Canadian National Rowing Team.
