Ski Week

Alpine adventure in Manning Park

One of Shawnigan's most successful ski weeks ever ended on Thursday night with fireworks, song, and even a few tears.

Beautiful skiing conditions complemented the School's annual pilgrimage to Manning Park last week.

With the majority of the student body packing the resort's rooms, cabins and chalets, Shawnigan enjoyed another week of alpine fun on the slopes of the Cascade Mountains.

In addition to four days of downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross country, students enjoyed schedules jammed with trivia, broomball, snowshoeing, tubing, swimming, and snow sculpting.

New events this year included a carnival featuring bosu sumo wrestling, human dogsled races and a free casino, as well as a popular inter-house karaoke competition.

After meeting on the outdoor rink on Thursday evening for the annual awards ceremony, the young people cheered as fireworks lit up the neighbouring hillsides.

The students then broke into an impromptu rendition of the School hymn, leaving some senior students misty-eyed as they savoured the last moments of their final ski week adventure.
