Math Contest Results

Earlier this year, approximately 110 Shawnigan students (Mr. Cox tells me this is a record number of students) wrote the challenging University of Waterloo Canada-wide math contests.

The following students scored in the top 25 percent of 74,000 students who wrote these contests across the country:

Masen C., Brett L., Sherly C.,Mary N.,  Cissy L., Simon X., Isabella Z., Helena H., Cecil A., Jack H., Merek P., Kevin M., Byron W., Holly H., Ray X., Xian Hai C., Maya J., Yuji A., Jessica K.,  Charlotte M., Rex L., Halle C., Graydon M., Leon L., Andres M., Kento H., Parker H., Anders F., Anthony K., Bob L., Anderson Z., William K.

Please stand and receive a round of applause for your outstanding results.

Individual highlights in the grade 9 competition include: a third place tie between Halle C. and Andres M. at the 90th percentile (which means that they scored better than 90% of the contestants), in second place in the 96th percentile was Anders F. and at the 99.5th percentile Anderson Z. had the best overall result for the entire school.

In the grade 10 Cayley Contest, Kento H. scored at the 94th percentile to place third, Anthony K. at the 96th percentile was second and at the 98th percentile, William K. placed first.

In the Fermat competition for grade 11s, Leon L. placed third at the 94th percentile and Bob L. and Parker H. tied for first place at the 96th percentile.

We had a small number of students volunteer to write the extremely difficult Euclid Competition and Kirby Min and Leon Li tied for first place and were most deserving of their place on the B.C. Student Honour Roll.

Anderson, William, Bob, Parker, Kirby and Leon, please come up and receive your medals.
