Library Opening

The Jim and Kathryn Shaw Library

Shawnigan students took excited first steps to a new paradigm of learning, with the opening of the Jim and Kathryn Shaw Library.

With the eponymous benefactors seated to his left, Headmaster David Robertson welcomed students to the new space during a short courtyard ceremony on Wednesday. Stating that no other school in the country has a library to match this one, Mr. Robertson invited the entire School to thank the Shaws for their contribution.

Jim Shaw ’77 (Lonsdale's) spoke of the pride he feels in giving back to a School that has given him so much. He told students that he and his wife wanted to focus on 'team' and 'we' - "values that will lead you on whatever path you chose."

The Shaws then cut the ribbon to officially open the new facility, and kicked off an informal celebration in the quad. The family wanted the event to be a festive celebration, and the food trucks, music and mood of Wednesday's event captured the student-centred excitement of this special day.

The Jim and Kathryn Shaw Library is set to become the heart of Shawnigan's new Learning Commons. As students explored the spectacular new space, their wide eyes revealed a sense of gratitude and awe.
