Henley Royal Regatta: Friday Update

A very successful season!
The Henley Royal Regatta is undoubtedly the best known regatta in the world. Two Shawnigan crews are competing in this international event.

Let the races begin!

RESULTS:

Wednesday, July 2nd - The Senior Boys 8+ won a tough race against a very good crew from Norwich School. Before the race, Dave Roberts '41 came by to wish them good luck. Their next race is tomorrow versus Dulwich College.

Thursday, July 3rd - What a race! The 8+ earned a spot in Friday's quarterfinals by virtue of a resounding 3 length victory over Dulwich College. This means that both the boys and girls will be racing on Friday, with start times to follow!

Friday, July 4thThe girls and boys both ran into very strong competition today. Even though they rowed well, the girls lost to Headington. The boys took the lead on 3-time defending champions Abingdon, but could not hold off the very powerful UK champs. All of our Shawnigan rowers should be very proud of what they accomplished this season!

Peter Yates was the head of rowing at Shawnigan for many years. In November, we dedicated this season to him. Today, his wife, Joanne, and his daughters Aly and Lizzie, met us at the boat before the race. Peter was then with us in spirit, as well as literally and figuratively. One of his final wishes was to race down the Henley course. We hoped you enjoyed the ride, Peter. Today's race was for a great man: PDY.
